Does anyone else here do similar and maybe could give me some tips on what to look for and what to avoid? ? ?

Any help, tips, etc... would be great.

Have you thought about the property market. There are a lot of very cheap houses about at the minute. Buy one and rent it out and the rent should cover your mortgage to the market rises again then flog on. If l had the money thats what l would be doing.

This is my post from a difeerent thread:

i dabble in the stock market aswell, i am in an investment club with my dad and a few friends of the family and we do pretty good.
I dont know if you heard on the news about the oil in the falklands, anyway we invest pretty heavily in a company called desire petroleum and another called rockhopper, these 2 are well worth a punt: See text copied below:

Shares in small cap oil explorers Desire Petroleum, Rockhopper Exploration and Falklands Oil & Gas move higher on talk that Desire could this week announce an oil discovery.
Desire gains 8.9 percent, while Rockhopper shares are up 11 percent, and Falklands oil & Gas take on 2.2 percent.
The Independent newspaper's Small Talk column says that, according to sources, AIM-listed Desire could announce that it has found oil in the seas north of the Falklands Islands on Thursday or Friday.
One trader points out that while investors are hoping for some news soon, with Desire having commenced drilling three weeks ago on February 22, no-one is holding their breath just yet.

Most of the people in our club are in the oil industry, one of the guys works for the company supplying the drilling rig so he keep us updated on all the goings on, we plan on selling half our shares in these two when the share price hits £5 per share, we bought most of them when the price was below £1 so we will get a good return.
You will have to be quick though as once they strike oil the price will rocket.
